| After joining the Air Force and serving during the Gulf War in 1990 - 1992 I began my surveying career as a rodman for Culpepper & Carmichael Surveyors. I worked for Greg, Murphy was retired and only drafting, and Danny Hall was the Party Chief. After about 2 years I took a job with Engineering Plus, Inc., just after Terrell Temple, P.E., P.L.S. took over the company from Jimmy Kemp, Mr. Kemp was actually still working out of the building when I started. I ran a crew part of the time and worked on a crew the other part, I learned about Global Positioning Systems (one of the first firms in the area to purchase such state of the art equipment at the time). I used mostly Leica Instruments, HP48 data collectors with TDS software. I eventually went back to work for Culpepper and Carmichael and learned to use the HP 48 with SMI software, and I picked up some autocad basics. Fast forward a few years....I took a job with an Engineer and Land Surveyor at their newly created company, Engineers, Surveyors and Inspection (ESI). I worked as a rodman for this firm only about 6 months, until I got their first party chief trained. During the time I was working for ESI I worked on honing my CAD skills and was able to get a job with Engineering Plus, Inc. again, only this time it was a draftsman position. I worked for Engineering Plus for the next few years and had a wide variety of tasks including; Survey Crew Manager, Senior Draftsman, and eventually took over the Network Administrator job as well. During this time I worked on Projects ranging from small boundary surveys to large building and parking lot layouts, I performed volume calculations for Waste Management and Big River Industries and used Global Positioning to perform Control Surveys for Aerial Photography. After working for E.P. for several years I was recruited by the City of Meridian to fill an Engineering Technician position. While working at the city, I was introduced to Eagle Point software and Arcview for GIS mapping, I left after only a year and a half to pursue a new career in Radiologic Technology. Two years later, while working at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, I graduated as Class President from X-ray school with high honors and a member of Phi Theta Kappa. During this time I never gave up on pursuing my Professional License in Land Surveying. Finally, In 2006, I received my Professional Licensure in Land Surveying and found myself looking at a great opportunity to began a career as a Professional Surveyor with over 20,000 reference surveys and more work coming in than I could handle. I have a good customer base and look forward to serving many more people and businesses in Lauderdale, Clarke and surrounding Counties. Nobody ever said it would be easy, in fact they said, "if it was easy - everybody would be doing it." (Greg Carmichael) |
